2021 Hop Production

In Idaho, 9,694 acres were harvested, which equated to 18,414,000 pounds of production, and $104,964,000 million in value.

Production for Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in 2021 totaled 116 million pounds, up 11 percent from the 2020 crop of 104 million pounds. Combined area harvested for Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in 2021 totaled a record high 60,872 acres, up 4 percent from the 2020 level of 58,641 acres. Harvested acreage increased in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. The United States hop yield, at 1,900 pounds per acre, is up 130 pounds from a year ago.

In Idaho, Columbus/TomahawkR/Zeus, Mosaic®, Citra®, Idaho 7TM, and El Dorado® were the major varieties, accounting for 63 percent of the State’s hop production.


2020 Hop Production
The United States hop yield, at 1,770 pounds per acre, down 211 pounds from a year ago. The 2020 value of production for the United States totaled $619 million, down 3 percent from the previous year.

Production for Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in 2020 totaled 104 million pounds, down 7 percent from the 2019 crop of 112 million pounds. Combined area harvested for Idaho, Oregon, and Washington in 2020 totaled a record high 58,641 acres, up 4 percent from the 2019 level of 56,544 acres. Harvested acreage increased in Idaho and Washington, but declined in Oregon.

    These were the major varieties, accounting for 68 percent of Idaho’s hop production in 2020. Other varieties grown in the gem state include Amarillo®, El dorado, Cascade, Comet, Cashmere, Calypso, Crystal, Bravo®, Galena, Simcoe® and Idaho Gem.
